Ultrasound is a radiation-free imaging technique that transmits ultrasound waves in the body to produce images of different anatomic structures. More advanced techniques (Doppler) enable the study of blood vessels.

Preparation for your exam:

– You will change into the required clothing

Exam will be carried out by the onsite radiologist

Results will be sent to your doctor within 24 to 48 hours

Preparation for your exam

Some tests require special preparation:

Abdominal ultrasound :
Fast (no food or drink) for 5 hours before the exam

Pelvic ultrasound :
Drink 3 large glasses of water (750 ml or 24 oz.) about 1½ hours before the exam to have a full bladder

Abdominal and pelvic ultrasound : 
Fast for 5 hours before the exam and drink 3 large glasses of water about 1½ hours before the exam

* Patients must bring previous radiology exam reports and images (X-rays, ultrasounds, scans, MRIs), involving the same part of the body, to their appointment for diagnostic comparison.
